15 Wrestlers Named NWCA Scholar All-Americans

(Manheim, PA) – The Lake Erie wrestling team finished the season among the top 20 Scholar All-American teams in NCAA Division II, as the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) released the full list of teams and individuals on Monday afternoon.

The Storm ranked 19th in the team rankings and posted a 3.128 GPA. At the top of the team rankings featured Maryville University with a team GPA of 3.650, followed by Emmanuel College (3.416), Indianapolis (3.413), Augustana (3.355), and Coker (3.345).

Brylan Clouse, Ben Doehr, Conor Donahue, Christopher Droege, Kyle Henning, Honour Kline, Dylan Norris, Brady O’Connor, Sean O’Hearon, James Penfold, Jacob Potok, Thomas Potter, Jacob Smithson, Brandon Tenney, and Ryan Whener were all named 2021 NWCA Scholar All-Americans.

Clouse, Donahue, Droege, Kline, and Penfold have each earned All-American honors for the second time in their career. National qualifiers Tenney a grad student has been featured twice, while O’Hearon has been named a Scholar All-American four times in as many years.

In order for a student-athlete to be nominated to the Division II Scholar All-American Team, he must have a minimum 3.4 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, with that benchmark at 3.25 for those who qualified for the 2020 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships. Due to the impact of COVID-19 on the season, the dates of competition stipulation were removed from this year’s qualifications.
